About Social AI

Germany's first student initiative combining AI innovation with social impact

Who We Are

At TUM, we noticed a gap: while AI is taking off everywhere, it's not yet being effectively used to solve the kinds of humanitarian and environmental problems that truly matter. We have thriving clubs for AI technology, social projects, and startups in Munich, but no community that brings all three together.

That's where Social AI comes in. We founded Social AI to fill this void – combining cutting-edge AI innovation with social and environmental good, powered by an entrepreneurial spirit. We're here to make sure that AI isn't just used for corporate profit, but also to help those who need it most.

To provide a collaborative A-Team where ambitious students can harness AI technology to create solutions for humanitarian and environmental challenges. Every day, we work towards turning ideas into impactful AI projects – from concept to prototype – that make a positive difference in the world around us.

To become Germany's leading student organization for AI-driven social innovation, demonstrating that AI can be a force for good. We envision a future where AI is not only about tech giants and commercial use-cases, but equally about empowering nonprofits, aiding communities, and protecting our planet. Disaster Prediction AI – Protecting the Planet

Using computer vision and machine learning on satellite and climate data, we can predict floods, droughts, or wildfires before they strike. By identifying patterns and early warning signs, such projects help communities and aid organizations prepare sooner and respond smarter.

We're developing AI-driven tools to help nonprofits automate their social media & PR work. Think smart AI agents that create content, engage supporters, and boost fundraising for charities that otherwise lack tech resources.

AI Education Tools – Equalizing Opportunity

Education should be a right, not a privilege. We're prototyping an AI-powered toolkit for classrooms in under-resourced areas. The AI could adapt educational content to different age groups, gamify lessons to boost engagement, and provide insights so that teachers can better support each student.

A Club for Students to Grow

Social AI isn't your typical "meet-and-greet" student club – it's a hands-on, high-energy environment for personal growth and real impact

If you're an ambitious student willing to roll up your sleeves, this is the place to supercharge your learning. Be ready to spend at least 10 hours per week with us: brainstorming, coding, and creating something meaningful. It's a significant commitment, but the rewards make it worthwhile.

Real-World Projects

You will work on projects that have tangible outcomes. From day one, you'll be applying AI to solve challenges faced by NGOs or communities. You'll experience the entire process from identifying needs with partner organizations to designing and implementing game-changing AI solutions.

Mentorship & Learning

We connect you with industry experts, researchers, and PhD students in AI and related fields. Through one-on-one mentoring and group sessions, you'll get guidance on technical skills and advice on project development.

Personal Growth

This is a place to challenge yourself. You might lead a project team, learn to pitch your ideas, or manage collaboration between technical and non-technical members. You'll develop leadership, teamwork, and project management skills.

We welcome undergraduate and graduate students from TUM, LMU, and Hochschule München with diverse backgrounds. While we are particularly interested in AI engineers and programmers (Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or any related field and you can code or build AI models), we equally value students with skills in marketing, design, finance, and business who are passionate about using technology for social good.
